Big Pictures, the London-based photographic agency responsible for last week's paparazzi pictures of England captain David Beckham in his underwear on his hotel balcony in Lisbon, have apologised for the invasion of his privacy and agreed to pay substantial damages to a charity of Beckham's choice. All copies of the images will be destroyed.
The Football Association were outraged by the decision of The Sun and Daily Star newspapers to publish the photographs and have lodged a protest with the Press Complaints Commission. The agency has also agreed to pay the FA's legal costs.
An FA spokesman said: "These pictures were in breach of Portuguese law. We hope this sends out a clear message to anyone intent on breaching the privacy of any member of the England team."
